In addition to the amazing people we have on our Strip Church team, we have some new additions. I love that we are building a team of people with all different abilities, stories, and passions. We have some women that love pampering women with hair & make-up, some great listeners that love one-on-one time with girls, some women who are 'mother figures' to the girls and want to teach practical skills we all need to learn, and some specialized people on the team like a doctor, therapist and lawyer that want to use their expertise to offer support to our girls! We are meeting and working with other organizations like the Pregnancy Resource Center and East Valley Family Services who offer support to women with children or are expecting. These places have all kinds of amazing services that we now get to offer our Strip Church girls! I just want you girls to know that Strip Church is a team of people who absolutely love you and are here to support you in whatever ways we can! Whether its a personal need, emotional need, physical need, or spiritual need, we will do our absolute best to help meet it! We are on your side! =)

]]> http://stripchurch.com/blogs/theclubs/newadditions.html Wed, 01 Sep 2010 18:58:27 -0500 Becoming a Servant to Any All http://stripchurch.com/blogs/theclubs/becomingaservanttoanyall.html I don't often include bible verses in my blogs, but can't help myself after coming across this verse: 1Corinthians 9:19-23 says, Even though I am free of the demands and expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated. I kept my bearings in Christ—but I entered their world and tried to experience things from their point of view. I've become just about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn't just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it!

I think The Strip Church represents this verse directly in the fact that we are 'entering the world of strippers, prostitutes and porn stars'. We often get ridiculed for this, and yet this verse is straight from the mouth of Jesus! This past week I heard some unfortunate stories of the church picketing strip clubs, others passing out "church paraphernalia" that reads, 'who's your daddy?', and stories from women about the misconceptions of this industry. This verse talks about becoming the servant to ANY and ALL, and yet we often see the exact opposite. Why don't we put our pride aside, and learn how to love and serve the way Jesus did? I hope in The Strip Church you see a difference. I hope you see a love that changes your mind about the Jesus you once heard about. You are loved, completely, unconditionally & eternally loved. We believe in you, and are here to serve & love you with no agenda. We value being a part of your lives.

We have a relationship with the ladies starting the magazine because we bring cupcakes to the club where they work. They asked Strip Church to provide loot for the swag bags, which Joy happily did. We provided Jesus Loves Porn Stars Bibles and stickers, and then we sat back and watched the confused or surprised looks on people’s faces when they flipped through the Bibles. The party was a great way for us to share our hearts through our swag and our presence. We had the opportunity to connect with girls we already knew, and we got to meet some new people in the industry too. Like most nights of work with Strip Church, we merely show up, trusting that God is using our presence in the lives of those who need it. We don’t know the impact of being at the party, and we don’t know if anyone cured their hangover the next morning with a pot of coffee and a flip through their Jesus Loves Porn Stars Bible. Thanks to the Real Eyes girls who allowed us to come and share our hearts and swag with you and your guests. We were honored to be there.

I had the opportunity to talk for an extended period of time with some of the girls in the clubs. Long conversations with girls are always a blessing because they often don’t have time or interest in more than a quick hello. I love when conversations with the girls turn from the realities of their current lives to the things they hope they can become. Dreams are not lost on these girls, no matter how many obstacles stand in their way. I love that they continue to dream about better boyfriends and jobs. I love that they still believe the world offers better possibilities for them. I love that they hope. Strip Church can help these girls find realistic means to achieve these goals. We recognize that staying in the industry is tough, but getting out feels tougher. We recognize that the obstacles in the way of achieving one’s dreams may feel insurmountable. We can’t run the race for someone, but we can give her the tools she needs to run it well. We can provide the support and resources that a girl may need to create the life she dreams of having. Keep dreaming. Life has more to offer all of us. God’s love is infinite, and he desires all of us to experience the fullness of that love. Know that your dreams come from the deepest places of your heart where God resides, reminding you that are worth so much more than this life.

Bringing a girl out to the brothel to work her shifts for the week may seem controversial, and yet thats an act of kindness worth much more than controversy to The Strip Church. You see, I think often times Christians preach but don't practice, expect but don't give, and yet thats quite the opposite of what we see modeled by the man we're suppose to live like. W.W.J.D, isn't just a popular slogan we see wrapped around wrists of all groups of people, its truly what we are supposed to live by! "People don't care how much you know, unless they know how much you care." I absolutely believe that this is true. Our goal at the Strip Church, is to meet the immediate needs of our girls whether that be a ride, a lawyer, a doctor, diapers for their child, or you name it, we strive to meet that need so they truly, "know how much we care." We model a mans life that was extremely controversial to some, and yet He felt the controversy was worth loving people beyond their circumstances, issues, and mistakes. At Strip Church, we are known for controversial acts of love and kindness, and I'm proud of that. =)

Since I started to tell people about my volunteer work with Strip Church, the most common question I am asked is our success rate. Here’s my answer. It’s a dangerous question in any ministry because one can’t quantify success in ministry in the same way businesses do. Any shareholder in a company can go online and see the success of that company. Success is marked by sales and brand awareness. The business of loving souls doesn’t translate well to spreadsheets and pie charts. If I were trying to save souls in the way that companies earn dollars and basketball players score points, I wouldn’t be spending my time hanging out in strip clubs. I wouldn’t waste my time at porn shows. After all, the soul-saving numbers have to be much lower in these places than if I target people on their death beds.
Strip clubs, brothels, and porn shows are some of the toughest places in America, and many people in them are broken. The most likely outcome for my work with Strip Church is that lots of people will see God’s love. Most of these people are those who wouldn’t see it otherwise. But few of them will escape the tangle of the porn industry. They have a lot to lose. They will lose their source of income, their friends, and I’m sure some of them fear they’ll lose their lives. Many of them have burned all the bridges to their former lives (if indeed there were bridges to burn, and often there weren’t). They’ll be leaving everything behind without having anything to look to in the future. Walking away from prostitution isn’t as simple as changing one’s diet or shifting careers. It’s giving up everything. Alexander Solzhenitsyn said, “The meaning of earthly existence lies, not as we have grown used to thinking, in prospering, but in development of the soul.” And for this, there is no pie chart. There is only trust that success is intangible, marked by faith, hope, and love. We find success in these qualities that we can’t sell and that are marked by their invisibility and inability to be counted by anyone but the one we serve.

A Strip Church Spa Day, that’s what! We had an absolutely phenomenal day today pampering, feeding, loving and giving gifts to 27 women from all different Clubs in Las Vegas. We had a volunteer chef who came out and outdid himself with an array of amazing appetizers from fresh fruit kabobs with piped homemade whip cream, to mozzarella bites with made-from-scratch marinara. The women could not stop talking about how fabulous the food looked and tasted – some even asked if he could be their personal chef! We had an outside baker that put a twist on our signature cupcakes, and made chocolate cupcakes with Tiffany blue icing, on which we added diamonds to each cake. We also had three stylists, a manicurist, an esthetician, and a make-up artist who all volunteered their services and offered to love on these women at no charge!  We got to chat with these women about their lives, kids, husbands, and life’s ups and downs as they sat drying their freshly painted toes and masked face. Each woman received a personal gift with a Tiffany blue ribbon attached, and their excitement was priceless as they opened them as fast as they received them! Within minutes, the lipstick was on their lips and the lotions on their hands. They hugged me as they thanked me over and over! We had a photo booth set up with an array of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” costume items for them to dress up in. With long black gloves, tiara’s, and large diamond rings, these women posed with their girlfriends as the photographer caught their laughter and smiles with each flash. We gave away a Tiffany and Co. necklace to one of the girls who RSVP’d and the girl that won it literally broke out into tears! Later she texted me with this, “Thank-you so much for today…it’s my first Tiffany’s, and I have never won anything! My birthday is on Wednesday, so thanks for the great birthday gifts, a spa day & Tiffanys! I’m blessed, love you!” I can’t but help feel unbelievably greatful for every conversation, hug, and smile that I encountered today! This is the first event we have put on at The Strip Church, but it’s certainly not the last!! Stay tuned for so many more events to come!

I had followed a still, small voice (actually, it sort-of felt like a persistent, shouting voice at
times) to contact Joy and commit to flying to Las Vegas once a month to volunteer with Strip Church.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I headed to Las Vegas, and I wasn’t sure what I could contribute to the ministry. I only knew that I was supposed to show up. When I went to book my plane ticket to Las Vegas, Southwest’s website wasn’t working.
It was my husband’s birthday, and I figured I could book the flight the next day. The next day, the price of the ticket doubled. I waited it out, but the price didn’t go down, and I paid the most I’ve ever paid for a plane ticket to Las Vegas (more even than I paid when we went out Super Bowl weekend). But I knew I was supposed to show up.
The day before I left for Las Vegas, I had a stuffy nose, headache, and congestion. By that night, I was vomiting and had a fever of 102. I knew I couldn’t do anything in that condition. I couldn’t even get out of bed, much less on an airplane. But I figured I would be better the next morning because I was supposed to be there. I needed to show up.
The next day, healthy but nervous, I was in Joy’s car headed out to strip clubs for the night. Over the course of two evenings, I had the opportunity to connect with girls over conversation and cupcakes. I had the opportunity to share the love of Jesus, which has
overwhelmed me time after time, with people who need to know they are loved.
I was most surprised by the warm welcome Strip Church received at the clubs. Bouncers, managers, house moms, and strippers welcomed us (and our cupcakes). I expected a passive acceptance of our presence not open arms. This encouraged me that a tiny flame of hope for something better still burns in everyone.
This is where I believe Strip Church fits in. Strip Church offers hope to those who have long ago given it up. It offers hope to people who have long since stopped believing they are good enough, valuable, and loved.
Strip Church is here to tell women they are priceless. We are here to tell women that they are not alone. We are here to tell women they are loved beyond their wildest dreams. We are here to tell women that there may be countless men who don’t treat them right, but there is one man who gave his life for them. That man doesn’t care what we’ve done, what we haven’t done, who we are, or who we aren’t. He loves us so unconditionally that even in the darkest corners in Sin City, he still burns on as a tiny flame of hope. None of us can ever escape his love.

I love it that house moms are offering girls our cards when they see needs that they can't meet. Strip Church isn't Superman, but I promise that if you make that call, we will do whatever we can to help meet your needs, be that support, and offer a hand without any hidden agenda. She loved hanging out and chatting with the women, and the feelings were mutual! We even got a full lesson on apricot homeopathic remedies from a girl. Things are a little slower now, since its summer, so we get to have more time with the girls & longer chats. A few girls have noticed the article in the newspaper this past sunday and we have gotten a chance to hear their thoughts. One girl told me, "I know you work with all different girls, but we're ok in here!" "Thats the reason I liked the article," I said, because it wasn't all about "saving girls" or "getting them out", thats totally not what we're here for. In fact, my favorite line in the article is, "For us, it's not hey, here's my card, call us when you want out. It's call us if you want to get your hair done or go have a spa day with Joy." And thats exactly what we're here for; to hang out, love you & spend time getting to know you! As far as the spa day with Joy goes, I've got a whole day being planned for you girls to be spoiled & pampered. So stay tuned... =)

We were able to get special permission from a GM at one of our favorite clubs to meet her and the bouncers and get some photos with our infamous cupcakes outside of the club. After the clubs, we brought them along to Porn Star Karaoke where they were able to speak with many of the porn stars and staff and hear about the staff of xxxchurch/Strip Church. Many of the people interviewed, shared about their extreme apprehensiveness of us at first, and then the realization that we're just normal people who truly love and care about others. One porn star even said, "I wanted nothing to do with them at first, and now I feel like they are close friends!" The reporters seemed shocked at the way we interacted with, laughed and loved on these people. They were like, "so you don't really bring bibles and church invitations, you just sort of hang out in these places?" I let him answer that question as I sang "Summer Lovin" with another porn star. I'm excited to have a story coming out about us that shines light on who we really are at the core. We pulled out homemade chicken salad and croissants and served dinner, and then of course cupcakes for dessert. :) Then we pulled out all kinds of girlie stuff from our bags and did make-up and eyelash applications. The girls were like, "wow you sure spoil us!", and they are right, thats what we're here to do. Whatever your needs are, whether its being pampered, listened to, loved on, or any other resources, we at the Strip Church will try and make it happen! You are spoiled & loved like crazy by the "cupcake girls" =)

There was some interesting acts such as: drag queens, a belly dancer, a gypsy with a dancing parrot, an alien comedian, and a graceful ballerina. It was definitely entertaining and so fun being able to support and watch our little ballerina - she did a great job! It's so fun seeing all the amazing talents these women have, and being able to show them love by being a part of their lives! ]]> http://stripchurch.com/blogs/theclubs/happybirthday.html Wed, 05 May 2010 15:54:34 -0500 Big Hair Big Night http://stripchurch.com/blogs/theclubs/bighairbignight.html Friendships one of the best gifts you can get in life, and I feel like I've been given more than what I deserve through Strip Church.  I think about how long we've been in Vegas and the beginning visits to clubs.  It's been an easy road with some, with friendships right off the bat, and with others we've had a slower go.  Both have developed beautifully and I'm very grateful for that.  But tonight I'm especially grateful for Cheetah's and my friendships there.  It wasn't an easy start at all, in fact there wasn't much of a start, but through growing friendships I can say I love the staff of Cheetah's and am so thankful for them.  We are here to stay and if you don't work at Cheetah's, that's okay we'll probably be knocking on your club door soon!

One day we will be in the back, hanging out with the girls, doing hair and makeup and such for an hour, but the next time we come by, the club has new manager/owners, and we have to introduce ourselves again.  Working in the sex industry is a tough business and is mostly a short lived career.  However, it’s always nice to see when a ex stripper who danced for years, comes back and becomes a house mom to give back to the girls.  So here’s to all the wonderful house moms out there who work hard for the girls, is a wonderful support, and is a stable place for the numerous girls that go in and out of the clubs. Our jobs here wouldn’t be the same without you!

So many times in all of our lives, we face hard things, but what helps us get through those, are the people that love and support us through life. We listened last night as a girl cried over the loss of another woman that worked there, and the loss of a family member. We prayed for a woman who's sister is seriously ill with cancer, and we counseled a woman who was a a victim of severe domestic violence. We understand that these are common stories in life, and yet we understand that without support, love, and hope, all of these are extremely difficult to process and get through. We at the Strip Church are that support, that shoulder to cry on, and that unconditional love. We have no agenda, we are simply there to show love to women in tough situations that have no where else to turn. Women in the industry, we love you and are commited to you! Thank-you for letting us be a part of your lives, you are such a big part of ours.

Four clubs, Three new, one old...and doors were opened and we were welcomed in with smiles.  Some would give credit to St Patrick for his luck tonight, but I'll put my money on Mrs. Nienaber....she even got offered a job.   Cheetah's was the favorite stop of the night, where it felt like my real family and Cheetah's family were meeting.  Bummed that we didn't get to see Diana, but as usual, we'll be back.   Excited about these new places and as always enjoyed very much watching people try our cupcakes for the first time.  They are the best in town...every strip club in town agrees with me.

It's a really encouraging thing to see managers and house-moms want us there and want us to know the girls.  It shows that they aren't just in it for the money but they do want to girls to be taken care of and loved.  We are in these clubs to provide hope and resources to get through those times in life that you just need a some help and support.  Very thankful that club management sees this and values it.  Party planning, starts now!

The more and more we go out, the more I realize that really, it’s like a big slumber party or something in the back rooms. We’re doing make-up, having heart to hearts, and discussing relationships.  Now on the calendar, we’ve booked sushi dates and a girls night…. Apparently, March is National Women’s Month or something like that… so here’s to celebrating womanhood! Bring on the lip-gloss, heels, and ice cream- we’re ready!

As we walked into the back, one of the girls was telling a very animated story. She was talking about watching a show on "a church channel" and feeling like what the preacher was saying was speaking exactly to her. She started feeling excited that the "why" questions she'd been asking, were being answered! Then all of a sudden, the preacher shouted, "You could be the 52nd person to give $1000 to this ministry, call in now!" She was like, "Man, he almost had me!" We laughed with her but cringed in the inside. We let her know that the Strip Church girls come with no strings attached. We bring cupcakes, and our genuine love and acceptance for them with no agenda.Girls, we're here for you. No donations necessary! ;)
